The 2024 Wyss Film Festival
2024 was another year of great change in our household. But even amongst the chaos, the Wyss Film Festival remained healthy and resolute. 2024 was actually an increase over the previous year's total, but still down significantly from the glory days of the Festival. At year's end, an additional 182 films were added to the cumulative, 14-year total. I'm also still working on seeing every film ever nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. The current count is 584 out of 601 films (97%). One thing that changed with this year's list was the rankings. For the last 13 years, I've selected my Top 10 films and 10 Honorable Mentions for each half of the year, for a yearly total of 40 movies (20 top films and 20 runners-up). This year, I've cut the list of 10 Honorable Mentions down to 5. With the yearly watch totals at a sustained lower level, combined with a smaller pool of unseen gems, it made sense to trim down the lists. So without further ado, I give you a complete list of all the moving pictures I saw in 2024, along with a Top 10 list and 5 Honorable Mentions for each half of the year!
