The 2014 Wyss Film Festival
2014 marks the forth "Wyss Film Festival." Over the course of 2011, 2012 and 2013, I've watched 757 different movies (or approximately 63 days worth of movies in three years). Each year, I have mixed feelings about these lists. On one hand, it's crazy cool to have experienced that much unique filmmaking across all different time periods and genres. On the other hand, it's an obscene amount of time I could've used to cure cancer or build a life-size replica of the Eiffel Tower out of popsicle sticks. I do feel slightly better that my film watching is on a downward trend. 2014 featured 24 less films than 2013. And it was down 22% from my first "Festival" in 2011. I have no doubt that 2015 will continue that decline. Perhaps it'll even be the final year. With baby #2 on the way, there's simply less time to curl up on the couch with Jayme and a good film. Nevertheless, 210 films made the list this year. And I only paid money to see two of them (thanks to the Demmer Public Library in Three Lakes). With all the great filmmaking in the world today, it's definitely something I'm going to continue for at least another year, watching as many movies as I can. We'll see how it goes.
